In the small town of Nazareth, an angel told a humble virgin girl that she would be God’s chosen instrument through whom the deliverer would come. And, though she couldn’t fully comprehend all this would entail, Mary received the Lord’s word and took her place in God’s unfolding plan of redemption. • Walter Strickland is Assistant Professor of Systematic and Contextual Theology at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has contributed to, edited, and authored multiple books in his areas of research interest, which include the African American theological tradition, education theory, and theology of work.
