According to the book of Hebrews, Christ obtained an eternal redemption for his people by means of his own blood. In other words, the entire sacrificial system of the Old Testament, and even the temple itself, was a kind of place-holder which awaited the arrival of the true lamb of God who would take away the sins of the world.
